Queensland residents who did not heed evacuation warnings before the approaching Cyclone Yasi will now have to buckle down and bear it: The Australian government says it is now too late to evacuate. The Category 5 storm will hit land Wednesday, pummeling Queensland, which is still recovering from catastrophic flooding. The state premier predicted Yasi will be "the most catastrophic storm to ever hit our coast.” More than 400,000 people live in the storm’s expected path. Residents have also been warned that they will be on their own for up to 24 hours after the storm strikes.
