Shackleford won the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, beating Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom by three quarters of a length. Shackleford paid $27.20 on a $2 bet to win, despite reports that he was agitated leading up to the race. It is the first Triple Crown-series victory and the first Preakness start for jockey Jesus Castanon. Castanon has been aboard Shackleford for all five of his starts this year. Castanon said of Shackleford, “He gave me his best.”
