This makes Nicolas Cage look like a punter. A report by the Government Accountability Office says that companies that received some $24 billion stimulus money owe a whopping $750 million in back taxes. While the government can’t name names, it has forwarded the 15 most serious cases to the IRS for investigation. The problem is that the government’s normal oversight didn’t apply to stimulus recipients, who owe in a variety of areas from corporate income to payroll taxes. Worse, the total amount owed by all stimulus recipients may be as high as $909 million.
