The Soviet era is still causing plenty of problems: A boat dating back several decades sank during a storm on a Russian river Sunday, killing at least 2 and leaving more than 100 missing. "It was not that choppy, but it was raining hard and there was a storm," Yelena Kaleyeva, a resident of a nearby village, told local media. The accident raises eyebrows about the safety of Soviet-era trains, planes, and boats, which Russia continues to use. While two men were able to swim to shore and another 83 were picked up by a passing river boat, the Ministry of Emergency Situations believes chances of survival for those left are slim to none. The boat, taking a popular "pleasure trip" down the Volga River, carried at least 125, many of whom were women and children.
