Days after saying one of their top military commanders was assassinated, the Libyan rebel leadership has said Gen. Abdul Fattah Younes was in fact killed by his own forces. Younes, a former security chief under Gaddafi responsible for the detention and torture of Libyan dissidents, was a controversial figure in the rebellion. He'd been recalled from the front lines for questioning in Benghazi, but the troops sent to retrieve him simply killed him and dumped his body outside the city. The troops remain at large. Younes' killing raises questions about the unity of the rebel council, and increases tensions between the rebel factions and Younes' powerful tribe.
