What a wild few days, and what a strong finish. The Dow Jones industrial average was in the red just 45 minutes before the closing bell. It ended Tuesday's session up 430 points, or 4 percent, at 11,240. The S&P 500 was up 53, or 4.7 percent. The NASDAQ rose 125 percent, or 5.3 percent. It was an extremely volatile day for the markets, but in the end traders bought up knocked-down stocks and seemed optimistic about the Federal Reserve's promise to hold interest rates at historically low levels until at least mid-2013.
