Storm could make landfall for first time in three years.

A hurricane hasn’t made landfall in the U.S. since Ike hit Texas in 2008. But Hurricane Irene, upgraded to a category-2 storm Monday evening, is on a collision course with Florida—a state that hasn’t seen a hurricane since 2005. Irene is expected to pick up intensity Tuesday, bumping up to a category 3. And it could be a category 4 by the time it hits Florida Friday. By Saturday evening, the storm is projected to hit the Carolina coast.
