A Wisconsin clinic has notified all 2,345 patients seen by a nurse over the past five years of possible exposure to HIV and other blood-borne diseases. Earlier this month, the clinic learned that the certified nurse had reused an insulin pen while showing diabetic patients how to inject themselves. Though she changed needles after each demonstration, it is possible that blood residue left on the pen was passed on. “We are taking all precautionary steps to test all of the patients even though the risk level is low,” the clinic’s chief executive told Reuters.
