Former presidential candidate John Edwards's trial has been pushed back until at least January 2012, a federal judge ruled Wednesday. Edwards has been accused of spending $1 million in campaign funds to support his mistress and love child. U.S. District Judge James Beaty, Jr. said the volume of records relating to the case and the complex legal issues require both sides more time to review it, despite being listed to be heard in October. Edwards's lawyers on Tuesday sought for a dismissal of the charges, saying that even if all the accusations leveled by the prosecutors are true, no laws were broken. Edwards's lawyers also claim that the former U.S. attorney who pushed the case forward before quitting in July was politically motivated.
