Georgia death-row inmate Troy Davis, whose case has garnered national attention due to claims that he was wrongly convicted, has been denied a last minute clemency bid by the state’s Board of Pardons and Paroles. Davis, 42,was charged with killing an off-duty police officer in Savannah in 1989. The parole board heard arguments by Davis’s family and lawyers that there was enough doubt to delay his execution, particularly since seven out of nine trial witnesses recanted their initial testimonies. His supporters continued to rally outside the state capitol building on Tuesdsay evening, a witness told Reuters. Davis' execution is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:00 P.M.
