Save the date. Apple is set to unveil its latest iPhone on Oct. 4, sources tell AllThingsD. The unveiling will be of special importance for the company, as it will be the first conducted by new CEO Tim Cook, who took over after Steve Jobs stepped down due to poor health. Presiding over the product rollout will be Cook's first opportunity to publicly set a tone for his new role and establish himself as the successor to Jobs, who made such unveilings an iconic part of his leadership at the company. The iPhone 5 will likely go on sale within a few weeks after the announcement. It's unclear whether Jobs will make an appearance at the event.
