With the final Republican debate behind us, it's time to assess the winners and losers. The consensus seems to be that everyone had a fairly good night, but that Romney lost because Newt didn't self-destruct. E. J. Dionne at The Washington Post declares a victory for Newt, but says Mitt did well simply because he didn't draw too much fire. Paul Begala mostly agrees, saying Newt won by staying standing, and Romney lost because he didn't land a blow. John Dickerson has a slightly different view, putting more stock in the attacks on Gingrich by Michele Bachmann and other second-tier candidates.
