The president of Penn State University said the famed football powerhouse would be able to “move forward” in the wake of sanctions leveled by the NCAA. “I was faced with a very, very difficult choice,” Rodney Erickson said on CBS’s Face the Nation Sunday. Erickson said he had to weigh having the football program shut down entirely for several years against accepting the NCAA’s terms, which include a $60 million fine and a four-year ban from postseason play. “This allows us to continue to go on playing football,” Erickson said of the disciplinary measures handed down after a report found that university officials knew for years about allegations that former coach Jerry Sandusky was sexually abusing children. “It allows us to go on helping to support the other intercollegiate athletic teams that we have at the university.”
