Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amped up his rhetoric around Israel’s atomic ambitions Sunday, saying that the prospect of a nuclear Islamic Republic “dwarfed” all other security threats. “Therefore I say again that Iran must not be permitted to obtain nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu declared in a statement on Israeli television. The prime minister’s strong words came as newspaper reports in Israel claimed that the Obama administration had compiled a new report concerning whether Iran had made progress in its development of nuclear weapons that went “far beyond the scope” of what is known by the United Nations’ official inspectors.
