The consumer price index went nowhere in July, according to new data form the Bureau for Labor Statistics. Inflation remains low, with the Consumer Price Index going up only 1.4 percent over the past year, and the “core” CPI (the normal index without energy or food) going up 2.1 percent. Although the index as a whole is unchanged, there were noticeable drops in energy prices and a hike in health-care prices. The story for consumers isn’t great—over the past year, wages have barely kept up with the small rise in prices.
