The Census Bureau report released on Thursday showed orders, shipments, and inventories of durable goods – stuff like planes, appliances, and cars – showed new orders jumping up 9.9 percent in September. This $19.6 billion increase followed a dip in August. The durable goods sector with the largest jump was transportation equipment, with orders up $16.8 billion, or some 31.7 percent.
