Does this mean the end of men at the box office? The kid-friendly Monsters University won the pre-holiday box office, bring in $46.2 million, for the second weekend in a row, while women carried The Heat to second place with $40 million. Starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, The Heat’s audience was 65 percent female and 67 percent ages 25 and up—not the type of crowd Hollywood normally caters to. The film is already a success, since it cost only $43 million to make and grossed $40 million in its first weekend. World War Z, the zombie-action flick starring Brad Pitt, came in third with a $29.8 million haul, and the traditional thriller White House Down—starring Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum—took the fourth slot, bringing in a disappointing $25.7 million.
