Even alleged terrorists keep diaries. An English translation of six personal journals kept by one of Guantanamo Bay's most high-profile prisoners, Abu Zudaybah, was obtained by Al Jazeera this week. The translation provides insight into Afghanistan's civil war in the '90s, the rise of al Qaeda to power, and the Bush administration's "enhanced interrogation" tactics. Zubaybah, who was captured in 2002 while fleeing Afghanistan, makes 52 cameos in the "9/11 Commission Report," and his diaries were cited multiple times by U.S. officials while justifying holding prisoners at the controversial detention camp.
