Rouhani says “we will not answer any threats.”

Talks between Iran and the major world powers broke down Sunday, with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani then signaling the discussion could not be mended with a hardline speech to his country’s Parliament. After talks broke down early Sunday, Rouhani said that he would not “answer to any threat, sanction, humiliation, or discrimination.” The deal looked somewhat promising Saturday night, with a flurry of last-minute bargaining went well beyond midnight. But the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, and Iran’s foreign minister, Mohammed Javad Zarif, said they were unable to overcome differences—not just between Iran and the major world powers, but also serious divisions between the Western nations, with France being the loudest objector.
