MLB Players Union Head Dies

Credited with labor peace, drug testing.

Michael Weiner, the executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association, died Thursday night in New Jersey after suffering from brain cancer. Weiner was credited with years of labor peace in baseball after a long period of conflict, and worked with club owners to establish the most rigorous drug-testing program in professional sports in 2011. Weiner had been undergoing chemotherapy and other treatment for brain cancer, and had lost the ability to walk and use his right arm.
