Nearly 3,000 protesters surrounded the government ministries in Bangkok Tuesday as they called for the resignation of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. Waving Thai flags and blowing whistles, the protesters ordered workers inside the interior, agriculture, tourism, and transport ministries to leave their jobs and join in the demonstration. The protests were held in defiance of a national-security law that was passed Monday, when two other ministries were surrounded. Protesters say Shinawatra is controlled by her brother, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who was ousted in 2006 in a military coup but still exerts political power in the country.
