Collins First Gay Player in NBA

IT’S OFFICIAL

And first in major North American team sports.

Last night, Jason Collins made history by becoming the first openly gay athlete to hit the court as a professional NBA player. Joining the Brooklyn Nets, he played 11 minutes in the 108-102 win against the Los Angeles Lakers. Though the game was played on the Lakers' home turf, when he entered the game the crowd at the Staples Center gave him a standing ovation.
