Former Pakistan military ruler Pervez Musharraf was indicted Monday on five counts of treason. The case against Musharraf, who took power in 1999 during a military coup, stems from his move in 2007 to suspend Pakistan's constitution and declare a state of emergency in order to continue his controversial rule as president. Musharraf pleaded "not guilty" to each charge, and declared "I am not a traitor," to the court. If convicted, the 70-year-old could face the death penalty or life in prison.
