Parents who avoid vaccinating their children according to schedule because they fear adverse reactions can actually increase the risk of fever-caused seizures when the vaccines are finally administered. A new study published in medical journal Pediatrics found that if the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) shot is administered between 16 and 23 months of age (rather than the recommended 12 to 15 months), the risk of having a seizure as reaction to the vaccine doubles. About 40 percent of U.S. parents delay or refuse to let their children get vaccinated over safety concerns.
