Those 140 characters can reveal a lot, especially when it’s about launching a domestic jihad. Federal authorities have charged a naturalized U.S. citizen in upstate New York who allegedly planned to kill returning soldiers, as well as Shiite muslims in the Rochester area. Many of the details for Yemen-born Mufid Elfgeeh’s prospective attacks were found quite simply through his Twitter account. Of the suspect tweets, one of the more damning was “al-Qaida said it loud and clear; we are fighting the American invasion and their hegemony over the earth and the people.” An affidavit reveals he also said, “I’m thinking about just go buy a big automatic gun from off the street… and just put on a vest or whatever and just go around and start shooting.” FBI agents arrested Elfgeeh on Saturday. He has been charged with two counts of illegally receiving and possessing unregistered firearm silencers, but U.S. Attorney William Hochul Jr. said Monday the investigation is ongoing.
