Roughly one month after agreeing to demands of the Pakistani government and blocking dozens of accounts for “blasphemy,” Twitter is now unblocking those accounts. Twitter announced it is working with Chilling Effects Clearinghouse, which is an organization that works to protect online activity. “We have reexamined the requests and, in the absence of additional clarifying information from Pakistani authorities, have determined that restoration of the previously withheld content is warranted,” Twitter said. Twitter had received requests from the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority to remove tweets and accounts that were anti-Islamic or had images of the Prophet Muhammed and burning Qurans.
