A U.S. airstrike this past Monday killed the Osama bin Laden of the al-Shabab terrorist group in Somalia, the Pentagon announced Friday. The status of Ahmed Godane was unclear for the past several days, with different sources saying he was dead or alive following the attack. Godane and Shabab publicly claimed responsibility for a September 2013 attack on a mall in Nairobi, Kenya that killed dozens. The terrorist group is considered the largest al Qaeda affiliate in Africa by the U.S.
