Individuals featured in Rolling Stone’s now-disavowed report on sexual assault at the University of Virginia are now lawyering up. Nicole Eramo, the associate dean of students who heads the school’s Sexual Misconduct Board, has hired a firm that represents plaintiffs in defamation cases. The alleged victim in the story, Jackie, has hired a lawyer, and members of the fraternity central to the story, Phi Kappa Psi, have also sought legal advice. While Rolling Stone has not said whether or not it is turning to outside counsel, experts say it almost certainly would be seeking legal advice on the possibility of a defamation case.
