After being freed from five years in a Cuban prison, U.S. Agency for International Development contractor Alan Gross has received a $3.2 million payment from the U.S. government as part of a settlement with his employer. Gross was working in Cuba for a company called Development Alternatives Inc., and was trying to expand Internet access in Cuba’s Jewish community when he was jailed in 2009. The payment is a settlement for a claim filed by DAI against USAID for $7 million for incurred expenses related to the arrest and incarceration of Gross.
