The Interview raked in an estimated $15 million in just online sales and rentals during the first four days of its debut, Sony Pictures said Sunday. While it’s unclear how much of that estimate was due to $6 digital rentals or the $15 sales, the online component brought in about 2 million downloads overall. Comparatively, The Interview brought in just $2.9 million in its limited theatrical release. Sony initially pulled the movie, which centers on an assassination plot on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, after hackers threatened to attack theaters showing the movie, but reinstated its release last week. The Interview is available on YouTube Movies, Google Play, Microsoft’s Xbox, the Sony-owned site, and more recently Apple iTunes, which joined streaming services Sunday.
