American students are getting better in math and science assessments, but are still falling behind international standards. According to a variety of testing centers, math gains have been steady since 1990, and, though there's less data, science scores have been improving slowly as well. The Program for International Student assessment, one of the largest international surveys of reading, math and science of 15-year-olds, placed the U.S. at 35th in math and 27th in science, below most Asian and European countries.
