King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia removed his younger half-brother as crown prince and appointed his nephew, Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, state television reported early Wednesday. The news of the appointment was announced by royal decree, Al Jazeera reports. King Salman, 79, also named his son, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as deputy crown prince, and replaced ailing veteran foreign minister Prince Saud al Faisal with the kingdom’s Washington ambassador, Adel al Jubeir. This is the second cabinet reshuffule since King Salman came to power in January after the death of his half-brother, King Abdullah. If newly named Crown Prince Mohammed bin Nayef becomes king, he would be the first of his generation.
