Medicare announced Wednesday that it will begin covering end-of-life counseling for 55 million older and disabled Americans next year. The idea once prompted political outcry when former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin called the sessions “death panels” during the national debate over the Affordable Care Act. The policy change takes effect Jan. 1.
