A Detroit oncologist has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for a Medicare fraud scheme that involved him giving healthy people chemotherapy. As many as 553 people may have been hurt in the get-rich-quick scheme carried out by Farid Fata. The judge called what transpired “a huge, horrific series of criminal acts” and said a restitution hearing will come soon. Fata will give up $17.6 million and other assets as part of his sentencing.
