Hillary Clinton’s campaign lambasted TheNew York Times in a letter to the executive editor, complaining of the newspaper’s delay in correcting errors after it published a controversial report about a possible criminal investigation into the former secretary of state’s use of private email. The nearly 2,000-word letter, which the campaign forwarded to the On Media blog late Thursday, called the Times’ report “egregious” and blamed it for “creating a firestorm that had a deep impact that cannot be unwound.” The report claimed that two inspectors general had requested a criminal investigation into whether Clinton “mishandled sensitive government information on a private email account she used as secretary of state.” The language was later changed to remove Clinton as the target of a criminal inquiry. The following day, the Justice Department and the two inspectors general issued statements that the probe was not “criminal,” but the Times waited another day to issue a correction.
