A study of women in Guinea found some appear to be immune to the Ebola virus—despite repeated contact with people showing symptoms of the disease. “They have had lots of contact with the virus, clearing up vomit, diarrhea, sleeping with children with Ebola overnight, and they never presented with Ebola symptoms and somehow they have an immune response to the virus,” a British scientist leading the study said. Scientists have not yet been able to identify why these 60 women are immune, but say they hope the women can one day illustrate why some people who recover from Ebola relapse months later.
