Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has declared a state of emergency in Flint because of lead in the city's drinking water. The action will make state resources available to assist with local recovery and assistance efforts. The water was found to have elevated levels of the chemical after the city switched from nearby Detroit's water system to the Flint River in order to cut costs.
