The U.S. military’s Guantánamo Bay parole board has approved the release of a “forever prisoner” who was at the facility for 13 years in a case of mistaken identity. Mustafa al Shamiri, 37, had been profiled as an al Qaeda facilitator or courier, but he was apparently just a “run-of-the-mill jihadist.” He was linked to activities of other extremists because they had similar names. Shamiri’s profile from that year allegedly called him “a senior trainer at the al-Faruq Training Camp as well as an al Qaeda guesthouse logistician.”
