Ohio’s parole board voted Thursday to release a man who spent 56 years on the lam before he was caught last year. In 1959, Frank Freshwaters, 79, was sentenced to up to 20 years at the Ohio State Reformatory, where The Shawshank Redemption was filmed, after he pleaded guilty to voluntary mansluaghter charges in connection to a car accident. Freshwaters was transferred to a less-restrictive state prison farm, from which he escaped seven months later. A lawyer for Freshwaters argued he had lived a clean life while on the run and never forgot the accident in which he struck and killed a man in Akron. The board recommended his release in late April.
