Syrian forces, with the help of Russian air support, took back the ancient city of Palmyra from the clutches of ISIS on Sunday, (according to Syrian state media) dealing the militant group a “mortal blow,” in one of its biggest losses in the past two years. The army general command reportedly wants to use the city as a “launchpad” for further operations planning to “tighten the noose on the terrorist group and cut supply routes.”
