The U.S. military conducted an airstrike in Somalia on Thursday with the help of the Somalian government, the Pentagon confirmed. According to a spokesman, the operation targeted Hassan Ali Dhoore, a senior leader of al Qaeda-affiliated group al-Shabaab. While the Pentagon has yet to confirm whether Dhoore was killed in the attack, it emphasized that removing him from the battlefield would be a “significant blow” to the militant Islamists’ groups operations at large.
