The impact of humankind on the planet is so profound that a group of scientists have proposed a new geological epoch to be considered by the International Geological Congress. It would be referred to as the Anthropocene and would begin around 1950, defined by radioactive elements present across the globe as a result of nuclear tests. The other signs for the epoch are plastic pollution, concrete, soot from power stations, and even bones left by the proliferation of domestic chicken.
