Sen. Jeff Sessions was confirmed as the next attorney general of the United States on Wednesday night, earning a simple majority by around 7:20 p.m. with the vote total at 52 yes to 47 no. The night before, Sen. Elizabeth Warren made headlines for attempting to read on the Senate floor a letter written by Coretta Scott King that was critical of Sessions. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell shut her down and she was subsequently not allowed to speak for the rest of the session. West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin was the only Democrat to vote in favor of confirming Sessions.
