A second case of Ebola has been confirmed in the Democratic Republic of Congo, as health officials rush to trace 125 people tied to a new outbreak of the deadly virus. At least three people have died so far in suspected and confirmed cases of the hemorrhagic fever. The outbreak, which occurred in the northeastern province of Bas-Uele near the border with the Central African Republic, comes a year after the world’s worst Ebola epidemic ended in West Africa, claiming more than 11,300 lives. Eugene Kabambi, a spokesman for the World Health Organization in the DRC, said Sunday that the latest two confirmed cases bring the total number of suspected and confirmed cases to 19. Health officials have not determined how the outbreak started, but the virus usually spreads through contact with infected bush meat. An outbreak of the virus prompted worldwide panic in 2014 after cases were recorded in the U.K., Spain, and the U.S., triggering fears of the disease spreading to the West. That outbreak was declared over in January 2016.
