Bitcoin set a new record-high trading price, soaring above $2,400 on Wednesday as the cryptocurrency continued its surge. CNN reported on Tuesday that the digital currency’s value had increased 125 percent in 2017 alone. Part of the reason for bitcoin’s explosion, analysts said, is stock-market uncertainty amid President Trump’s multiple scandals. As the U.S. dollar weakens, bitcoin and other alternative investments like gold tend to surge.
