The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is now reportedly testing new screening methods requiring passengers to remove from their bags and place in a separate bin any electronic equipment larger than a cell phone and certain food items. ABC News confirmed that the new procedure exists and that it does not stem from any specific threat. Rather, the outlet reported, “TSA has found that everyday items can appear similar to explosives on an X-ray machine, which slows down lines as officers have to manually inspect bags.” Ultimately, the goal of the new procedures would be to cut down on the need for manual bag checks.
