Chelsea Manning to Have Gender Surgery

A lawyer for Chelsea Manning has confirmed to BuzzFeed News that U.S. Army officials will provide the convicted document leaker with a gender-transition surgery. “I am unendingly relieved that the military is finally doing the right thing. I applaud them for that. This is all that I wanted—for them to let me be me,” Manning said in a statement provided by her lawyers. An Army spokesperson would not confirm or deny the news.
