Chen Pleads to Congress on the Phone

Chinese activist lawyer Chen Guangcheng appealed directly to the U.S. Congress in his quest to enter the United States. Chen called the Congressional-Executive Commission on China and expressed concern for his family’s safety. Two Republican congressman listened to Chen’s pleas over speaker phone. He also thanked Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for all of the help she has given him in recent days. The dissident had gone to the U.S. embassy in China after he escaped from house arrest.
