The number of children fleeing the civil war in Syria has now reached one million, according to a new report by the United Nations and UNICEF. Children make up half of the civilians forced to flee the escalating violence of the Syrian conflict, now in its third year, and with no clear end in sight. Three quarters of these child refugees are under 11 years old. "This one millionth child refugee is not just another number," said UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake. "This is a real child ripped from home, maybe even from a family, facing horrors we can only begin to comprehend."
