China’s Ministry of National Defense denied accusations that one of its Navy vessels had put a radar lock on a Japanese warship—dismissing the Japanese charge as “false information” and “hyped up.” Tensions have been high between the two countries over the past few months, as China decided to send its own military vessels to patrol the waters surrounding a group of disputed islands officially administered by Japan. Still, though there have been maritime standoffs, the Chinese defense ministry insists its Navy vessel radar has maintained “normal operations” and also denies accusations that it put a radar lock on a Japanese helicopter last month. “Japan unilaterally released false information to the public without confirming the facts with China,” said the ministry.
